Not only does it help you create a stronger bond with your candidates, it also helps you make more hires.
At Relode, we’ll do most of the heavy lifting, but you’ll want to remember a couple of important steps when prescreening your candidates.
I caught up with our Account Executive team (meet them here) who are the direct liasion between clients, candidates, and agents. They know every detail of the hiring process, as well as exactly what the employer is looking for. Here's what they had to say about how to presceen candidates.
How to Screen Candidates
Step one: Read the resume
Compare the resumé to the job description in question. You don’t need to pore over every resume for hours (that’s what we’re here for!), but you should do a quick skim to make sure your candidate meets the basic qualifications. For example, if a position needs 10 years of experience, a candidate with only a few years will probably be rejected. Determining the basics will help you submit more qualified candidates, resulting in more hires.
Step two: Verify contact information
Test the contact info before referring the candidate. Since we’ll be reaching out to your candidate to conduct a more thorough screening, it’s incredibly important that we have the correct name, phone number, and email address. When you have the right contact info, the easier it is for us to get in touch with your candidates and get them hired.
Step three: Set up candidates to expect a call
According to our AE team, this is the NUMBER ONE step to follow when screening a candidate. If you want to get your candidate hired, you need to first verify that they’re interested in a potential new opportunity, and then make sure that they know that someone from Relode will be getting in touch with them (and that we’re legit!). That way, they’ll be ready to talk through the opportunity and may already be excited, which will be more likely to result in a hire!
If you make sure to follow these steps, you’ll have better candidates, which will allow you to make more hires and earn more rewards.
